Before the final I decided I would interview one of the finalists (Andrew) to see what he thought about getting into the final. Andrew is a grade 6 piano player. Andrew entered last year and got to the semi-final although unfortunately he didn’t get through to the final. He said this about it when he got through to the final:

“I didn’t expect to get this far.”

However when he got to the semi-final he found out that most of the competition was a higher grade than him he said this about it:

“The competition was tough I never thought I was going to get through”

He was over the moon when he found out he got to the final, and was know determined to win he quoted this:

“Even if I don’t win I will still join in again”

He is clearly enthusiastic about the young musician of the year .I’m sure he will try his best to win

He was obviously very excited when he found this out and I’m sure he will be determined to win.

Ben who won the senior category was happy to take an interview so, I interviewed him. Ben has finished all his grades and did his 2nd diploma 2 years ago, he plays piano. He was nervous because it was the senior so everyone is more experienced than the ones in the junior competition. He had this to say about when he was lining up to play:

“I played 2nd to last so I was quite nervous”

He obviously wanted to do well and thought everybody else was very good. This was his last chance since he was in Y13 to win it’s a good thing he did.

“It was my last chance to win the young musician of the year since I’m leaving at the end of this year”

There was a lot of competition in his class since there were 5 people in the final who were also in his class. He was nervous about going 2nd to last so he wanted to do well he said this about how he felt after his performance:

“When I went on I was very nervous, but at the end I knew I did well”

The competition was tough so he thought that he wasn’t going to do very well but it seems he had done. It seems that Ben’s enthusiasm and determination showed off because he won. His piece was a short (surprisingly) modern jazz piece which as hard as it was, it was played extremely well and deserved to win.
