Mr. Britton receives an MBE
Mr. Britton, the headmaster of Bolton School, this year was named to receive an MBE on the Queen’s New Years Honours list for his services to Physics. Cameron and Paul went along to the Head’s Study for a quick interview to find out more. When Mr. Britton was asked what he thought about the image of Physics in schools. He thought that it is a subject that most don’t enjoy and many people share a negative stereotypical view of. He then said that he felt it his duty to give service to Physics and get more people interested in the subject. Cameron and Paul then asked what his family and friends thought about his MBE; he told an interesting story, about how his mother always opens up the paper on New Year’s Day to see if a member of the family is in the New Years Honours list. He told us about her reaction of delight that her son, our headmaster Mr. Britton was to receive an award. He said he had had many congratulations from past pupils that he had talked who had been influenced by his teaching and colleagues her at Bolton School. He also told us a bit more about the Ogden Physics fellow, a new member of staff being employed to help spread Physics from Bolton School to the local Primary Schools in the area. The Ogden trust will be funding half the wage of the Ogden Physics fellow, hence the name Ogden Physics fellow. Mr. Britton was amazed that his name had been submitted and was obviously quite pleased and proud of his new award. He will be received at the Palace on July 9th.
