Bolton School Boy Interviews Political Leaders

This year’s general election is expected to take place around May time and will determine who runs the country for the next four years. The general election involves the public voting for the political party who they want to entrust leadership of the country. This election is for over 18s only, but CBBC has come up with a new television programme, called Election, on which children between the ages of 11 and 14 are given a chance to ask questions to top political leaders on the running of the country.

This article ties in with our school, as 13 year old Akul from Bolton School Boys’ Division will be grilling political party leaders such as Nick Clegg, David Cameron and Gordon Brown, about how they would deal with another bank breaking recession. Akul is doing these interviews with three other children of his age and the interviews, which are taking place in March, should be aired in April time on BBC1. The programme will be suitably named ELECTION.

Akul first got the idea to go on the programme when he saw other children on CBBC and so decided to apply for a programme himself. He received a telephone interview and then a filmed audition to get onto the programme. Later that month he received a phone call to say that he had been accepted. The BBC has already spent three hours filming Akul taking part in various activities. These three hours will have to be condensed into a three minute video. Akul says that he is really looking forward to the interview and that it will be exciting to ask the Political Leaders a variety of questions.
